The cloud communication platform Twilio announced $12 million in Series B funding, which was led by Bessemer Venture Partners. The California based company has a pay as you go telecom platform that allows others to build on top of the platform.
Twilio has had over 20,000 customers building communication applications on top of it’s platform, some of which include Ebay, Media Temple, Salesforce and GroupMe who have just launched a group text messaging service.
In the new round of Series B funding participants were Union Square Ventures along with Pinnacle Invest Group, Angel Investors and Dave McClure’s 500 start-up’s, of which a $250,000 micro fund was set up for Twilio. The money is being dedicated to expansion.
Ty Wang, former Business Communications Director at Oracle is joining the organization as VP of Business Development and is joined by Byron Deeter from Bessemer on the board of Directors.
The initial funding was $3.7 million last year.
